"This is a bass to get when you have a few and want something different. I read alot of storys of players in Nashville who use them alot for an upright sound, as well as some rock bands using them on "MTV Unplugged" (Kiss, Areosmith, etc). It took me along time to find one, but I was well pleased when I did. With bronze strings, it gets the Violent Fems thing (ala Blister in the Sun) despite the fact he played an Earthwood acoustic bass. It gets that super low snarl, real cool. However, with the flatwounds it REALLY sounds like an upright! Amazing! I was told with the nylon tape flats it gets even closer, but I my self have not tried that. These basses, for those that don't know, look like a big thick Jazz bass and has a pointy headstock ala the 80's. But despite the fact the solidbody basses of that time period sure look stupid now, these are very cool and timeless looking."
